Gymnastics focuses on the performance of exercises requiring physical strength, flexibility, agility, coordination and balance. It introduces and develops a vast of range movements that can be used as an excellent basis for many other sports. Our toddler programmes are oriented towards providing a fun-filled experience that introduces basic gymnastic exercises. By 9 or 10 years, after several years of practice, many children are ready for more competitive gymnastics.
18 months – 2.5 years
This is a class where parent/guardian involvement is required. This class introduces children to the basics of gymnastics, including co-ordination, balance, and flexibility. The main focus is on the children having fun with their parents and being encouraged to try out all the equipment provided.
3 – 5.5 years
Children can now participate in this class by themselves. In this programme there is more opportunity for the children to develop their gymnastic skills, ie. cartwheels, handstands and a range of rolls. These exercises require the lifting, control and support of the child’s own body weight. Strength and flexibility training is a major focus, as well as eye-hand and eye-foot coordination in an atmosphere of fun and supportiveness.
6 – 9 years
In this class we build on skills that children have gained with a sronger focus on form and technique. The children learn how to have a greater command of the beams, vaults and floor routines. Strength and flexibility increases greatly within this age group, which helps them develop physically as they mature.
